OAKE reports that membership is growing. New chapters have been added to the organization. Dues will be increasing by $10.00. This is the first increase since 2001 and is necessary for the organization to continue to operate with a balanced budget. Insurance, auditing and legal costs have escalated as well as general operating and conference expenses.
Our own Georgia Newlin is president-elect for OAKE. Greg Williams from Massachusetts has taken over the duties of OAKE treasurer. Go Eastern Division! Naomi Cohen has finished her term as president of Eastern Division and Amy Carter will be taking over that position.

Carolyn Anderson has requested that you receive a flyer of West Chester’s summer Kodaly program and it is included with the newsletter. There are many opportunities for continuing Kodaly education all across this country. The Envoy has many listing and you probably have been receiving info in the mail from colleges and universities. We’re quite lucky to have West Chester, James Madison and Loyola with a reasonable driving distance. Not that I’d want to drive to JMU every day. Lucy Brubaker and I will be taking the Amidon’s workshop at Hartford. The dorm facilities are arranged in suites of two large bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge and bath. They house four to a suite, so if any of you are interested in taking this workshop, we’d be glad to drag you along for a week of great fun. The workshop is offered during July 10-14.
Here is a full listing of the WCU summer course offerings, along with contact information in case you are interested.
OAKE has issued a call for papers for the 18th Annual International Kodály Symposium to be held in August of 2007.
We will be offering note cards with a Kodály theme and manipulatives for use in the classroom at our workshops.
The 2006 Board Elections have been held. The results have been posted to the Board Members page.
